Increasing people's awareness of sustainability

Increasing people's awareness of sustainability - social, economic, environmental - is a firmly established objective of placemaking. Learning about natural resources, fauna and vegetation, local traditions (crafts, food) helps people to understand the essential characteristics of a place, and to appreciate the need to preserve them. This has been done in Ljubljana by learning about the indigenous vegetation invading the fenced plot, and in Nicosia, by collecting and caring plants in public space.
