Passages
This concert-installation by Entropia (João Ferreira and Marta Fiolić) featured a video documentary showcasing the activities of the "Somos Mulheres" association, accompanied by live music inspired by the sounds of Bairro da Mouraria in Lisbon.
The audiovisual performance is rooted in the testimonies of the women from "Somos Mulheres," offering a portrayal of their lives, struggles, setbacks, and triumphs throughout the various stages of homelessness and beyond. These narratives unfold without a clear beginning or end, presenting different facets with diverse challenges and opportunities.
The musical composition is a result of interviews and captures of street sounds from the Mouraria neighborhood, spanning from Praça da Figueira to Intendente, each relevant to the unique narratives of the individuals involved.
Activities
The performance took place at the end of the closing event “Sensing Places Together”, held in Lisbon the 14th and 15th of September 2023, at Largo do Cabeço da Bola, in a former garrison transformed into an artistic and cultural hub.
The installation is conceived as a dynamic slideshow featuring photographs and videos, harmonized with a live musical performance incorporating keyboards and electronics.
The sounds and images employed in the performance aim to immerse the audience in the rich tapestry of experiences, faces, and locations.
Objectives
The performance contributed to raise awareness of women who have faced homelessness, shedding light on their lives, struggles, and triumphs. By sharing their narratives, it seeks to create empathy and understanding among the audience regarding the challenges faced by these individuals. It highlights the work of the association in assisting women in precarious conditions and encourages the audience to support similar initiatives. The concert not only tells their stories but actively involves them in the artistic process, empowering them and providing a platform for their voices to be heard.
The concert adopts an innovative approach to storytelling by blending live music, video documentary, and street sounds. This unique combination aims to captivate the audience artistically while conveying a powerful and authentic narrative. The concert seeks to celebrate the local culture and traditions, adding depth and authenticity to the artistic expression.
The immersive approach, combining images and sounds, allows for a deeper connection with the stories being told, making the artistic expression more impactful.
